Designed to aid young people’s transition from education into independent living and employment, the Team Programme develops confidence and life skills through working as a team to set up and run an enterprise.
Originally designed by young people with additional support needs, for young people with additional support needs, and now also open to all learners aged 15+ in community settings, students interact with adults and grow in confidence as they run their own student company. They make all the decisions about their enterprise, from deciding on the name and product to selling to the public with pop up shops.
The students gain self-awareness to recognise personal strengths, preferences, areas for personal development and what can be offered to future employers.
YE Scotland will work with the school, college or community group to identify and train a suitable Volunteer Business Mentor who will support the programme and bring knowledge and expertise from the world of work. All YE Scotland Volunteer Business Mentors are PVG checked and are required to complete child protection training.
Full editable leader resources are provided to guide Business Mentors through the process of setting up and running the business. Resources have been designed to be flexible and meet a range of abilities and needs.
The Team Programme costs £100 per team.
It is recommended that the programme covers 150 notional learning hours over the course of one academic year.
Team Programme has an additional optional qualification which is credit rated in Scotland at SCQF Level 3 worth 15 credit points. Students work towards completing a portfolio of evidence documenting the journey of developing their enterprise, and their personal skills development. This qualification is marked by the main educator supporting the programme at school and externally verified by Young Enterprise Scotland and accredited by Glasgow Kelvin College.
