This is the highest award a member of the Scout Section (age 10½ to 14) can earn. It requires completion of all nine of the Challenge Awards - World Challenge Award; Skills Challenge Award; Creative Challenge Award; Outdoors Challenge Award; Adventure Challenge Award; Expedition Challenge Award; Teamwork Challenge Award; Team Leader Challenge Award; Personal Challenge Award, plus six Activity badges.
The Challenge Award elements take Scouts outside of their comfort zone and require skills such as determination, resilience and leadership.
The Chief Scout's Gold Award is for Scouts aged 10½ to 14. It follows after the Chief Scout’s Silver Award (although direct entry is possible) and precedes the Chief Scout's Platinum Award.
The Chief Scout’s Gold Award will typically require a weekly commitment over a 6-month period to meet the requirements of the award. Additional commitments such as weekends will be required for expeditions and nights away experiences. The Skills Challenge requires Scouts to regularly take part in physical activities over a period of four to six weeks. Time to complete may be extended to the end of the first term in Explorer Scouts.
The Chief Scout’s Gold Award is recognised by the presentation of a certificate and a badge that can be worn on Scout uniform.
