Newbattle Abbey College Adult Achievement Awards

Why this award?

Newbattle Abbey College is the awarding body for Adult Achievement Awards. These awards offer learners the opportunity to gain a National Certificate for learning they have undertaken within the previous 12 months in a variety of places including in the community, at work, in home, in college or in volunteering programmes.

The awards are credit-rated to the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) Levels 2-6 and are therefore recognised internationally. They have been designed to be context free to attract learners from different backgrounds. There are no entry requirements, and the different levels make them accessible and appropriate to a wide range of learners.

Newbattle Abbey College delivers Adult Achievement Awards, supporting approved delivery partners to deliver which means you don't have to go the the college to complete this award.

Those undertaking an AAA will gather evidence through a Reflective Journal, based on an activity they have already participated in. The activity itself is not part of the award; it is the experience and achievement from the activity that will enable learners to complete the award. By gaining an Adult Achievement Award, individuals demonstrate that they understand their own learning processes and that they can develop these skills and processes further, boosting confidence and enhancing employability prospects.

Who is it for?

The awards are aimed at learners who are 16 years old or over and who has been involved in learning in the past year, which can also include current learning in a variety of settings including in the community, at work, in home, in college or in volunteering programmes.

The awards are determined by learning outcomes, where learners review their progress, record key insights, reflect on their experiences, and plan for future learning.

What time commitment is required?

The time commitment will vary centre to centre, however, each level has different notional hours of learning, teaching and assessment attached to them:

  • Level 2 and Level 3 – 30 hours
  • Level 4 – 40 hours
  • Level 5 – 50 hours
  • Level 6 – 60 hours

The number of days or weeks that a learner would need to commit to completing the award would depend on what centre was delivering the award and what activity they are undertaking with that centre
