Cycling Scotland Cycle Ride Leader & Assistant Ride Leader

Why this award?

The Cycle Ride Leader courses covers the skills necessary to lead people on group cycle rides, using quiet roads and recognised paths. The course is delivered by experienced cycle tutors and is certified by Cycling Scotland.

Cycle Ride Leaders and Assistant Ride Leaders can support a wide range of groups, and will often re-introduce people to cycling who have not ridden their bike in a long time, or share their local area and use bikes to visit places.

Who is it for?

The Cycle Ride Leader course is aimed at anyone age 18 plus who can cycle confidently and would like to use their communication skills to lead group rides. 16 to 18 year olds can complete the course to certify as an assistant ride leader, and support ride leaders with group management.

What time commitment is required?

This is a 1 day (7.5hr) course which includes some self-supported preparation time.

It is recommended that ride leaders also complete appropriate first aid training.

Once trained, a Ride Leader or Assistant Ride leader can support their organisation to deliver group rides under local operating procedures.

Is the award externally accredited?

The Cycle Ride Leader award is certified by Cycling Scotland and subject to internal quality assurance.
