The aim of the award is to recognise young people's achievements during their time in the BB, developing skills in leadership, communication, outdoor expeditions, working with people within their BB Company or Church and community service. The Boys' Brigade has a progressive programme and awards structure, through each of its sections, available to children and young people, from age 5, up to 18. The highest award, gained as part of the Challenge Plus programme, is the Queen's Badge and will be completed by young people aged between 16 and 18. The Queen's Badge will normally be completed over two sessions and will require the young person to: • Agree a programme of activity with an Adviser and have the support of a mentor in their home BB company • Participate in skills-based training to support company or community work or like skills training for personal development • Take responsibility within the BB or church for at least 30 hours • Provide service or support within the wider community for at least 30 hours • Achieve two from the following three: - learn a new skill or develop an existing one - take part in a new physical activity or develop an existing one - train for and undertake a 3 day/2 night expedition or exploration • Take part in a residential experience to complete the award • Maintain a log of activity and record of achievement The Queen's Badge is of a similar level to the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Silver.
The Boys’ Brigade delivers a varied and balanced programme over 4 sections – Anchors (P2 - P3), Juniors (P4 – P6), Discover (P7 – S3) and Challenge Plus (S3 – S6). Throughout their time in the 4 sections the young person will work towards a series of awards, with progression evident as they move from section to section. Whilst in the Senior Section, the young person can complete the King’s Badge, the highest award in the BB, as part of the Challenge Plus programme.

Service in BB/Church - at least 30 hours
Service in community - at least 30 hours
Skill/Physical/Expedition - 30 hours
Skills based training course - 10 hours
Completion course - 20 hours
Completion of log - 4 hours
Presentation of a King’s Badge, which can be worn in BB uniform and a certificate, signed by HM King Charles III. The presentation will be made at an event within the company, with a further public presentation made on an area basis.
