The Awards Network contributed to the Review of Qualifications and Assessment which led to Professor Hayward attending the Awards Network gathering in March 2022.
The Scottish Government has now published its eagerly awaited response. The full response can be found here.
Connect (Supporting Partnerships in Education) has produced this useful summary.
It will be of interest to network members and 'Awards Aware' partners that the Scottish Government has agreed to reduce the emphasis on exams, remove them from practical subjects and extend the range of assessments. There is a clear role for awards to play as these new developments take root.
A working group will be established by Education Scotland to further explore inter-disciplinary learning.
More work is needed to determine what a 'leaving certificate' should contain.
Another area of interest for awards providers and users is that the Personal Pathway and Digital Profiling and Achievement work currently led by Skills Development Scotland will be developed further. It will be an optional rather than mandatory aspect of Scotland's education opportunities.
To make levels of achievement easier to recognise across different types of qualifications, the Government has agreed to adopting consistent use of SCQF levels. It will be useful to consider how non-curricular awards will be integrated in future, whether these are SCQF accredited or not.
