Prosper STEMOVATORS

Why this award?

At Stemovators, we’re on a mission to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and tech experts. Our Young Engineers and Science Clubs Scotland (YESC) programme provides support for teachers and business and industry alike.  It develops and delivers exciting hands-on activities which help young people understand the challenges and involve them in creating the solutions. YESC reaches pupils of all ages in primary and secondary schools to support the delivery of key government initiatives including STEM, digital strategies, and gender balance. YESC’s work focuses on areas of high social deprivation, rural isolation as well as girls, young women, and diverse groups underrepresented in the STEM sector.

Our annual STEM challenge gives Clubs a practical platform to explore a topical theme, and our Celebration events bring schools together from across Scotland. Giving pupils a chance to showcase their work to industry experts, take part in a range of challenges and meet those working in the STEM sector to learn about the exciting career opportunities available.

Projects are typically advertised and sent out at the start of each academic year. They can be geographically restricted depending on funding in a particular year. All resources are FREE to schools so there is always a high demand. Teachers should sign up to our network here, to be the first to hear about upcoming opportunities.

Who is it for?

All teachers / schools are welcome to register. Typically our projects range from P4-S2 but contain a wide range of material suitable for all audiences.

What time commitment is required?

This varies from project to project. Some schools run our projects over a term, or as part of a lunchtime club or over a few intensive weeks.

Is the award externally accredited?

The programme does not itself deliver a youth award, but the activities that young people will engage in can provide evidence to support achievement of a wide range of recognised and accredited youth awards.
