The RED programme is an internal British Red Cross accreditation scheme designed to Recognise, Empower and Develop all young (15-25 year old) volunteers engaged with the organisation. This three stage scheme is designed to recognise the hard work and time young volunteers invest, empower young volunteers by self-assessing the skills, knowledge and competencies they have gained whilst volunteering and develop ethical leadership skills.
The RED programme is for all young volunteers (aged 15-25) who are actively volunteering for the British Red Cross. The initial recognise tier is issued to all young volunteers after 6 months volunteering with the subsequent two tiers (Empower and Develop) being opt in and available for entry after 12 and 24 months respectively.
The programme is for all young volunteers, from those aged 15 and still at school to those graduating at a later age. There are also options for interns who are only with the organisation for a short time period.
Initially the Red programme first tier (Recognise) is issued after 6 months of volunteering. The following two tiers (Empower and Develop) are opt in and are available after 12 and 24 months volunteering respectively.
The second tier, Empower, is a self-assessment of the skills, knowledge and competencies gained whilst volunteering with the organisation for 12 months. The completion of the self-assessment will take approximately one hour.
The third tier, Develop, is an ethical leadership programme broken down into 5 modules (diversity and equality, my leadership style, communication and teamwork skills, self-leadership and decision making and leadership and the British Red Cross). Each module takes between 1-2 hours to complete, meaning you would need to commit approximately 10 hours to finish the programme.
The RED programme is accredited by the British Red Cross and is currently not externally accredited.
